University Working Groups

Over the summer, we convened ten Catholic college and university presidents on August 8, 2019 in New York City to address the twin crises of abuse and leadership failures. In advance of this meeting, we met in-person with several of these presidents to learn from their perspectives regarding the twin crises, their university’s response, and their ideas for future collaboration with Leadership Roundtable.

This convening arose out of the initial work of an ad hoc committee of the board, called the University Working Group. This working group was comprised of a handful of board members and staff who met in the spring of 2018 to explore the potential of a partnership between Leadership Roundtable and Catholic colleges or universities. When the twin crises arose last year, Leadership Roundtable put the ad hoc committee on hold. With further deliberation, we recognized that in light of the crises and the demand for our work, partnership with universities around the country could allow us to scale our reach and actual service
delivery.

On August 8th this summer, a convening of university and college presidents took place. We had a robust and honest conversation about how Catholic higher education can play a critical role in the Church’s recovery and reform in the United States.
