Hispanic Leaders gather at Raíces y Alas Congress

In spring 2022, our Executive Partner, Michael Brough, and Latino Pastoral Leaders Initiative Program Manager, Andrea Blanco, were privileged to join with Catholic leaders from parishes and dioceses across the country, Latin America, and the Vatican recently at the 6th National Catholic Congress for Hispanic Ministry titled “Raíces y Alas (Roots and Wings).” The congress was held in Washington, D.C. and focused on a theme of Prophetic Voices: Being Bridges to a New Era. Many participants of Leadership Roundtable’s Latino Pastoral Leaders Initiative also participated in the Congress.

Our friend and Latino Pastoral Leaders National Advisory Committee Member, Mar Muñoz-Visoso, gave a powerful keynote address on our role as bridge builders. Mar also serves as Executive Director of the Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

“In the end, we must move to a place where the ‘no, can’t dos”’that life throws at us will be met with the infinite trust and persistence, and the holy imagination, of those who know themselves loved by God and willed into existence, and empowered to build his Kingdom. We must bridge the divide from fatalistic pessimism, unholy resignation, and paralyzing unworthiness to reach the shore of the joyful missionary disciple who, even in the face of adversity, is able to respond in faith “I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).”
